English Angora's

GBF's Aremis & Oscar

Dec 2, 2008 - I received a call today from someone I had sold Aremis (now a black sr. buck) to in January of this year. The owner ("Harry") had come upon some personal and financial issues, was no longer in a house but an apartment, and could not afford to buy any more food for Aremis, Oscar and two other rabbits. Harry asked if I could take them. When we went over to pick up the rabbits, we saw a litter of eight kittens tussling around in the snow. The mom had disappeared. They needed homes. I let Abby pick out one kitty, with the stipulation that it HAD to be a barn cat. She promptly named him Brayden. So, the kitten and the four rabbits were all brought home. Needless to say, I didn't have the heart to make that little forlorn, eight week old kitten stay in the cold barn all night.

I had told Harry, like I do with all people I sell EA's to, that if anything should happen where Aremis would need a new home, to let me know. I just wanted to make sure he was always taken care of as best as possible. Sometimes things come up in peoples lives, and they can't attend to their beloved pets, as they would like. I am so glad that I was called. Aremis was out of Pinky's Hallie x Rachel's Pierre. He has marvelous bloodlines.

Dec 3rd - I brought Aremis in this morning to check him over. He needed a lot of attention. I've called the vet to have both of the EA's looked over to make sure they are in good shape to face the winter. The kitty is also going in to get his shots started and to get wormed. As soon as my new camera arrives, I will get pictures up.

Now, Oscar has a different story. Remember Lewie? Well, Oscar was Lewie's pal and they were both at the same rabbit show, looking for someone to take them home. I took Lewie, and Oscar went with Harry. Oscar is a beautiful Chocolate. I'm assuming he is older, 3 maybe, since his coat is very coarse. So now, I also have Oscar.

Dec 4th - Aremis has a slight respitory infection and goopy eyes, so he is on some meds to clear that up. He and Oscar were both wormed. They are both underweight - Aremis is only 4.09 pounds and Oscar is 5.06 pounds. The worming should help them put some weight on. Oscar was healthy otherwise and is good to go back out in the barn. Aremis will have to stay in for some time, as he is almost naked now. He would not be able to stay warm in the cold barn. So today I'll be making a place for him in the basement. Oh, and the boy kitty, is not a boy. So, Brayden is now Macie. Macie got her first round of shots, wormer and some flea-zapper. She's a cutie.

The other two bunnies that are now looking for adoption are 1) Maggie. A Sr. Black Magpie Harlequin Buck (yes, a buck). VERY friendly. 2) A Sr. Lionhead. Looks like a single mane. Also appears to be perhaps a F1 or F2 generation Lionhead - just looks different, not what Lionheads look like now. He is truly a pet. Homes are needed for these two boys. Harry loved them and truly wants good homes for them.

Dec 15th - I may have a home for Maggie the Harli. Ran into a breeder at the IRF show yesterday that lives in the Indy area. Hopefully, this will work out. Also, may have a home for the Lionhead... will know on Wednesday. Aremis is a non-stop eater. Holy cow. I can already tell that he has put on weight. So he is doing very well and seem quite happy - except when his dish is empty! Oscar, the chocolate EA, also seems to be doing well. He loves his pellets and hay.

GBF's Aremis is back home again.

Dec 26th - Here is a pix of Aremis. He has definately gained weight and is looking very healthy now. He has very nice shoulders, good rise and nice round hips on him. I'm so pleased. Also, the little lionhead went to his new home tonight. Thank you so very much Diane.

Jan 9th, 2009 - Maggie the Harlequin now has a new home also. That leaves Oscar and Aremis. I will definately be keeping Aremis here. I moved Aremis out to the barn the other day and got him all situated in with the other angora's. Oscar will be needing an adoptive family. He is a beautiful, friendly boy and needs someone to lavish him with love. It would be nice if a spinner would take him because of his gorgeous chocolate wool.

Jan 12th, 2009 - It appears I have found a home for Oscar, the Chocolate EA. She is supposed to come tomorrow, barring any bad weather to pick him up. Yea for Oscar!!

Jan 28th, 2009 - Charlotte (a SPINNER by the way) came yesterday and picked up dear Oscar, the Chocolate EA Buck. She lives in Three Rivers, MI. She also raises sheep specifically for their wool, and brought a roving of it for me to feel. It was the softest sheep's wool I've ever felt. So, bye-bye Oscar. Hopefully, this will be the last time you will have to adjust to a new home. THANK YOU so very much Char for making the drive and taking him into your home.

The last bunny, GBF's Aremis, the black EA buck, will be staying here. He has the nicest hindquarter and cobby, round body. Whew. All have been taken care of.

Willow

Holland Lop

Willow - Holland Lop

Jan 1, 2008 - Friends of ours had bunnies that needed new homes. Two of them we gave away at a rabbit show. But, no one wanted Willow (aka Peaches). So I decided to keep her and see what she might turn into after a good couple doses of wormer and a nice 'put some weight on' feeding program. She is VERY boney, but hopefully we can bring her back into condition. She has a very prominent crown and good ear placement.

Jan 10th - Weighed her today- 3.02 pounds.

Jan 17th - Wormed her with Safeguard today. Weight down to 3# even. Note how gaunt she is in the hind quarters.

Jan 24th - OK. I'm concerned. She has lost another ounce. It has been bitter cold. She is so thin I don't think she can maintain her body heat and gain weight at the same time. I'm bringing her inside until her body weight increases and/or the weather warms to over 40.

Jan 28th - Weight back up to 3.02 today. Whew. Guess she will be staying in for awhile!

Feb 8th - I've been putting the 18% feed to her, but she just doesn't want to gain.

Feb 19th - Finally, a little weight gain. Now at 3.05. Good.

Apr 1st - Well, Willow is expecting her first litter in a couple days. I gave her a nest box last night and she went completely crazy arranging the straw just so. It was so funny. Have no idea what kind of babies she will throw, but really like her prominent crown, so thought I'd try it. Hoping that breeding her to Columbus will put his nice short, open ears with her crown. Stay tuned.

April 4th - What a good mama Willow is! Two chunky babies carefully covered in the nestbox at 1:00 am this morning! Looks like 2 broken orange/fawn.

Willows kits.

April 12th - Here is a pix of Willow's babies, now 8 days old. Too cute.

April 13th - I recently realized that Willow has an ear number: FT11. Does that sound familiar to anyone? I'm very curious as to where/what she came from, what her background/lineage is.

June 2nd - Well, Willow is a mamma again. One little broken sable point. I fostered him/her to Felisa as she only had 1 kit also. So, does Willow carry the chl gene, or does Arden??? I'm guessing Willow since Arden has nothing like that behind him.

Sept 23rd - Willow is doing great. She has her third litter - two little broken torts that are now one month old. This is her third litter - each time she has had two kits. Very consistent!

Dec 4th - Willow is once again in the house for the winter. She just can not withstand the cold weather. She refuses to put any meat on those bones of hers. I'm concerned about her, she may be much older then I realized. So, I will keep her in and keep her warm and let her eat all she wants.

Jan 1, 2009 - Well, I'm going to close the book on this rescue case. Willow will stay here for the rest of her days. We have had her for exactly 1 year now. She is living in the basement where it is warm with Aqua and her litter, Swiss Miss and her litter, Aremis and Lucy (not feeling well since she aborted her last litter). So she has rabbit neighbors to sniff at and 'talk' to.
