The top of the tail is to be black, sparsley ticked with light brown, over a dark slate-blue undercolor. The nape of the neck is to be orange, with the ears laced in black. Eyes: Brown." Chestnut colored Hollands look like the typical wild cottontail rabbit.
When they are first born they look like a Black kit. However, they will have pink bellies and the inside of their ears will be light colored. Opal, A_B_C_ddE_

Tummy of an Opal kit 9 days old. Opal on top. They are very dark gray looking with white tummy and Agouti markings when born. Opal on top, then blue, frosty on bottom. Per Laura Lyon: The squirrels I have had were not born pink, but a light silver-grey, and then rapidly got more color. When their fur came it it was blue (not as dark as a self blue but not white), and had pink (then white) agouti marked belly/eye circles/ear/nostril lacing. Broken Chestnut Agouti
Hour old kits. Look very similar to a broken black kit at birth. However, the black quickly turns to a brownish color within a few days. The inside of the ears are light colored on a Chestnut. Broken Opal
Broken Opal holland kits are similiar to a broken blue kit. The inside of the ears will get a brownish cast to them instead of white like a Broken Blue does. Genetics of AGOUTI Colors

ALL colors in the Holland Lop AGOUTI GROUP are ALWAYS a minimum of "A-E-".

A CHESTNUT AGOUTI is all dominant: A_B_C_D_E_. A Chocolate Agouti is made simply by changing the "B" for black, to "bb" for Chocolate. An Opal is made simply by changing the "D" for dense, to "dd" for dilute. A Lynx is merely a "Lilac Agouti", so that is A_bbC_ddE_.

The other recognized Agouti colors use the Dark Chinchilla allele - c(chd). This is the 2nd most dominant allele in the C-series. The only other allele that can hide this allele, is "C". The c(chd) allele will hide the other more recessive alleles of c(chl), c(h) and 'c'.
