Coat Color Photo Matrix
ALL posted photos are expressly owned by me, unless indicated otherwise. They are not to be copied/used for any purpose.
Using one of my photo's and indicating it is mine, without my permission is unacceptable.
If you would like to use one of my photo's to explain a color to someone, provide the LINK to the photo, NOT the photo itself.
That way, people are directed to this website and I receive credit (good or bad) for the photo.
If you would like to use some of my photo's for a school project or as a learning tool for 4H rabbit clubs, please contact me first for permission.
MANY of these genetic combinations are NOT showable colors in any breed. In the case of Holland Lop recognized colors, the Holland Lop color name as stated in the ARBA SOP will be used to
identify the color. Different breeds have different names for the same genotypes in many cases (ie the Chestnut Agouti). If the genotype is showable in another breed, but not
Hollands, I will try to use the name spelled out in the SOP that fits that genotype for other rabbit breeds. As a rule, I will use the ARBA SOP name for the HL equivalent if it exists.
To go BACK to "Identifying Coat Colors" Click Here.
I put this together back in 2012/2013 and have been adding to it over the years.
Colors are organized by PATTERN (A-series) down the left side. See what happens to the coat color when a single gene is changed in the C-series, by
viewing a row left to right. Many of these colors are NOT recognized, but are genetically possible. Consult your SOP for recognized colors.
If you have pictures of some of these missing colors, I would love to use them. They do not necessarily have to be Holland Lops as
some of these colors are more common in other breeds. Thanks.

Sometimes may look like a self Black. This particular Self-Chin carries either REW or Pointed White. He tends to looks more Seal,
because, in the breeders opinion, he only carries one copy of c(chd) instead of two. Pix permission of Laura Lyon.

the self chins which are c(chd)c(chd) look close to their normal full C self counterparts". Pix courtesty of Laura Lyon. |

GBF's Kennedy at 2.5 months. If you don't have a Blue available
to compare against, you might think you have a Blue. However, Lilacs are lighter in color then

As kits, Lilacs are quite pale. |

E(s) is a modifier gene. It covers the middle band with dark pigment. Darkens the agouti's eye circles, triangle at nape of neck,
feet, legs, inside of ears and belly, leaving behind colored tips to the guard hair. There should be NO agouti rings when you blow into the coat.
See my chart HERE showing the interactions of the A- and E- series genes on coat color and how it impacts steel!
