DOB: 4 Oct 2008.

ELS's Elden x ELS's Lucy. I have decided to name this cute little guy (I'm pretty sure it's a buck) Pistol Pete. He is SO cute.

8-weeks on 29 Nov 2008.

Antigone's kits are 26 days old.

DOB: 11 Oct 2008.

White River's Arden x Saynora's Antigone. 3 kits. 1 broken tort, 2 torts. Beautiful babies!

8-weeks on 6 Dec 2008.

DOB: 24 Oct 2008.

Saynora's Zorion x Plank's Aqualena. 1 kit, finally. After three litters of giants, peanuts and DOA's, we finally have one healthy, wriggly dwarf sized kit. (There was another in the litter, but, yes it was a giant and didn't survive birth). I've moved the little guy in with Odessa's litter, as they are closer to his age. He seems to be doing just fine. I'm anxious for his eyes to open soon.

He is pictured below with Odessa's kits.

Odessa kits at 9 days old.

DOB: 28 Oct 2008.

Plank's Brent x LSR's Odessa. 4 kits. As I was inspecting these babies yesterday, it is now obvious that the one kit that I thought was a blue (2nd from left in picture), definately is not a blue. I think it is a Smoke Pearl (aa B_ c(chl)_ dd E_). Brent does have sable gene in his pedigree. There are no Agouti markings and it is not shaded, but has a pretty silvery shimmer to the tips of its hair now. So, now I think we have 1 Fawn/Orange, 1 Smoke Pearl, 1 Broken Opal and 1 Blue - all kinds of pretty colors! Now if they just grow up to have nice bodies and heads to match!

The tort kit in the picture is Aqualena's baby that is fostered to Odessa. He is now 13 days old in this picture and his eyes have just opened.

8-weeks on 23 Dec 2008.

Nevada's kits at 4 days old.

DOB: 2 Nov 2008.

Saynora's Zorion x Karrot Kreek's Nevada. 3 kits. 2 blacks, 1 blue tort! She is a first time mom and is doing a wonderful job. The dilute kit is also a surprise in this litter as I didn't know that Zorion or Nevada carried it.

8-weeks on 28 Dec 2008.

Darby's kits are 1 day old.

DOB: 4 Nov 2008.

White River's Arden x White River's Darby. 4 tort kits.

8-weeks on 31 Dec 2008.

DOB: 12 Nov 2008.

ELS's Elden x GBF's Bridgette. 4 kits. Line breeding to ELS Elden. Bridgette is down to four kits of the original six. Of course, the two charlies that I actually wanted, are the two that didn't make it. Oh, well.

English Angora's

Maria's kits are 5 days old.

"Snug as little bugs in a rug."

DOB: 1 Nov 2008.

ELS's Theodore x ELS's Maria Girl. 6 wriggly kits. 4 torts and 2 REW's. I was concerned that she caught, since Theodore only bred her one time. But, obviously, once was enough! I was in the barn when she had them. She is a good mama.

8-weeks on 27 Dec 2008.

Gracie's kits are 1 day old. Gracie's kits are 5 days old.

DOB: 5 Nov 2008.

ELS's Theodore x ELS's Gracie. 7 kits. I fostered the little one to Nevada, since she only has 3 kits to tend to. Pictured at 1 and 5 days. 5 day picture, top to bottom: tort, black, REW, black, blue, blue tort?

Finding a Cold Kit on the Floor

Wed. September 10th -- Oh, I so hate it when this happens. But this morning when I was out checking on everybody, I could only count seven kits in Hanna's box. There should have been eight, because I fostered two of them to Fazona. They are now 5 days old.

So I pulled out the nest box and removed each baby looking for No. 8, thinking he must have died and was in there somewhere. But he was nowhere to be found. I put the box back in the cage and pondered what on earth happened to him, thinking the worst of Hanna. As I came back into the rabbitry with a load of hay, there on the ground, in the dirt, was No. 8.

He was cold when I picked him up and I thought for sure he was gone. But, a leg made the tiniest movement. I quick put him next my skin and bolted into the house to get warm towels. After about a half an hour of rotating warm towels over him as I held him close to my body, he was moving more and making little noises. When he didn't feel cold anymore, I took him back out and let him nurse on Antigone, who has been doing nursing duty for some of Hanna's kits. No. 8 ate like there was no tomorrow. He is now in the house, in his own box, safe in the shower stall. He could very well, still not make it. But, here is the moral of the story: If you find them cold, they may not be totally 'gone'. If you can warm them quickly, sometimes they come back from the brink.
